Indian police arrest journalist in Srinagar

Srinagar, September 01, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested a journalist, Asif Sultan, in Srinagar. Muhammad Sultan, the father of Asif Sultan, told media that the police arrested his son from his home in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. “They took him, searched his room, his books, took his laptop and phone,” he added.

Asif Sultan is an assistant editor with monthly magazine, Kashmir Narrator. Asif had recently written a cover story on popular youth leader, Burhan Wani, whose killing triggered mass uprising in occupied Kashmir in 2016.

Showkat Mota, the editor of Kashmir Narrator told media that police have been telling him that Asif is being questioned for a story. “Police have kept him under illegal custody. Why did not they produce him before court in these six days? Why after we made it public,” questioned Showkat Mota.
