Industry calls for immediate revamping of Jam Sadiq Bridge

Karachi, January 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) while hailing the move by the Public Accounts Committee of the Sindh Assembly for its immediate repairs of falling Jam Sadiq Bridge, has earnestly demanded for complete revamping for the bridge, which is crumbling fast and may collapse any moment.

Chief Patron KATI, S M Muneer, Chairman Mohammad Zubair Chhaya, President All Karachi Industrial Alliance, Mian Zahid Hussain and Vice Chairmen Najmul Arfeen and Niaz Ahmed said in a statement that Jam Sadiq Bridge is being massively used by numerous container-mounted trucks on their way to upcountry destinations and back to the Karachi port, needed immediate repairs, and if restoration work was not done forthwith, it could collapse anytime. They said that due to its dilapidated condition it had to be closed for repairs for many times. They however said that the bridge needs complete revamping as even its pillars are decaying fast and not in a position to stand pressure of heavy traffic.

“Though government has assured Jam Sadiq Bridge’s complete overhaul many times but nothing has been done as yet and God forbid any tragedy can happen any time if it collapses”, Zubair Chhaya warned. He said that government should take serious notice of the situation and immediately order its repairs as PC-I of its repairs has already been prepared already. The industry leaders have appealed to the federal government to release the funds for the project without further delay so that the work on PC-I should be resumed by KMC. They further endorsed the KMC Administrator’s statement that the dilapidated condition of the Jam Sadiq Bridge had already been brought to the knowledge of the governor and the chief minister of Sindh.
