Innovative idea of conducting election boycott drive in IOK

Srinagar, November 07, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyet leaders, despite being detained at large, have come up with an innovative idea of conducting the election boycott campaign.

Hurriyet leaders have created short video clips and uploaded them on social networking sites and applications including Facebook and Whatsapp.

A short video clip of four minutes of duration has gone viral on social networking sites with the video messages of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, and Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi. The video message being sent on whatsapp and shared on Facebook and twitter asks the people to vigorously boycott the forthcoming so-called assembly elections. It also shows Syed Ali Gilani addressing the gathering via phone wherein he asks youth not to undermine the mission of the martyrs.

The video starts with the song eulogizing the people of Kashmir. It then shifts towards the lecture given by Syed Ali Gilani who in his message asks youth to boycott elections. It also shows him reciting the poetry of Allama Iqbal in front of the camera. “My appeal to the youth in particular is that the sacrifices rendered by the people must be safeguarded and hence in no way should vote during elections.”

Mirwaiz in a video clip said that the people of Kashmir had sacrificed their lives for a cause and elections couldn’t be the substitute to the right to self-determination. “We appeal people to boycott the coming polls so that we could prove our solidarity with those who have sacrificed their today for our tomorrow,” Mirwaiz said in the video clip.

Aasiya Andrabi castigates the authorities for conducting the sham elections, saying that the utmost priority of the people of Kashmir must be to boycott the elections.

The clip marks the re-entry of Syed Ali Gilani saying, “One point programme – Election boycott Shehr-o-Gaam.” The clip is followed by Aasiya Andrabi and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, saying ‘Boycott Boycott election boycott.’ The video clip ends with the video of Syed Ali Gilani at Kulgam wherein anti-poll slogans are raised. Later, the clip also shows JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, raising slogans of election boycott during a rally.
