Srinagar, September 03, 2019 (PPI-OT): The occupied Kashmir completed a full month under the siege of brutal Indian forces where unrelenting communications blackout and curfew have brought the normal life to a grinding halt with markets continue to remain shut and public transport is off the roads.
The Kashmir valley and five districts of Jammu region have no contact with the rest of the world due to curfew, suspension of internet, mobile and landline phones and closure of TV channels. India imposed the clampdown after scrapping Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5.
The worst type of humanitarian crisis is looming large on the horizon of the occupied territory as people have been badly hit by unavailability of food, medicines and other commodities. Patients are dying due to travel restrictions and also shortage of medicines in hospitals.
A grim future also awaits the IOK businessmen as shops and business establishments remain closed for a full a month now. Traders say routine business is impossible in the absence of freedom of movement and mobile and Internet facilities. An estimated financial loss of around Rs five billion has been suffered by the industrialists in Jammu alone.
Despite curfew and restrictions, Kashmiri youth took to the streets in Pulwama, Ganderbal, Poonch and Rajouri districts and staged anti-India protests. Scores of youth were injured when they clashed with the forces’ personnel.
Since August 5, over 11,000 political leaders and workers have been placed under house arrest or in jails. A good number of young boys as old as 12 years of age have been picked up by the occupational forces during night raids and shifted to unknown locations. The family members of the abducted youth are unaware of the fate and whereabouts of their dear ones.
Meanwhile, the UK-based newspaper, The Independent, quoting victims of Indian brutalities in occupied Kashmir said the troops beat the Kashmiri youth, black and blue. The paper maintained that the youth are stripped naked and then beaten with canes, gun-butts and kicks, besides being electrocuted. They are also forced to drink muddy water.
On the other hand, a Delhi court while dancing to the tune of Narendra Modi’s government has endorsed the ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir. A tribunal headed by the Delhi High Court Judge upheld the government’s decision saying the Jamaat has been actively indulging in pro-freedom activities.
