Islamabad Police foil bid of weapons smuggling, recover huge arms cache

Islamabad: Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Islamabad Police has filed an attempt to smuggle huge cache of weapons and recovered six mini machine guns, 14 Kalashnikovs, four 12 bore pump action, one 12 bore Double Barrel, one Sniper rifle and over 30,000 rounds from a vehicle near motorway inter-change.

Following the directions of Minister for Interior A. Rehman Malik, Capital police was maintaining high alert in the city and checking was enhanced at the entry and exit points. With the same objective of tight security, ACLC team headed by its In-Charge Altaf Azai Khattak and also including Sub-Inspector Muhammad Nazir. Head constables Irfan Khan, Khalid Khan, Constable Rafaqat Mehmud were conducting checking near motorway interchange in the jurisdiction of Tarnol police station.

This team stopped a suspected Corolla car (RIU-4577) following which its occupant tried to escape from the scene. Police team chased the absconding person and managed to overpower him. On the search of the car, police recovered huge quantity of weapons including six mini machine guns, 14 Kalashnikovs, four 12 bore pump action, one 12 bore Double Barrel, one Sniper rifle and over 30,000 rounds from the car.

It is to mention that Tarnol police team headed by Sub-Inspector Fazal ur Rehman and Constables Mujahid, Arshad, Zeeshan and others recovered 41.900 kilogram hashish a day before from a car (RNE-2131) driven by Talib Hassan during special checking near motor way chowk.

On August 13, Margallah police team also recovered huge cache of weapons during search of a vehicle near F-8 Exchange and arrested two persons Hazrat Wali, Imdad Ullah. Police recovered four 8 mm rifles, six 222 bore rifles,, 9 repeater guns, three 44 bore guns, two 7mm rifles and 46 magazines.

Minister for Interior A. Rehman Malik in press conference here on Sunday termed these recoveries as great success of Islamabad Police and appreciated IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yusuf Malik for taking effective steps to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. He also awarded commendation certificates for the members of the police team who foiled the attempts of weapons’ smuggling.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mehmood Pirzada, IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik, SP Sajid Kiyani, SP Investigation Ch. Liaqat Ali, SP Muhammad Ishaq Warraich and other police officials were also present on the occasion.

The minister said that Islamabad Police is endeavoring its best to safeguard the city and this force is role model for other law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the IGP Islamabad briefed the minister about the performance of Islamabad Police and efforts in curbing criminal activities.
