Islamabad, April 23, 2020 (PPI-OT): Islamabad – Japanese Ambassador Kuninori Matsuda called on Azam Swati Minister Narcotics Control here on Thursday and expressed views on issues of mutual interest. The Ambassador appreciated the efforts made by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the federal government to defeat Coronavirus pandemic. The ambassador said Pakistan was dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak in a remarkable way, given the fact that developed states are unable to cope with it successfully on their own. He said that the Japanese government and people of Japan stand by Pakistan during these challenging times.
He said the Japanese government recently donated USD 1 million for Afghan Refugees in order to provide safety kits and food ration to daily wagers living in Afghan camps. Minister Azam Swati while conveying his appreciations to Japanese Ambassador said the fight against Coronavirus is symbolic to fight against drug menace. He further said humanity is facing the challenge of illegal drug inflow and since it is a universal issue, therefore, winning war against drug trafficking is impossible without combined efforts from around the world.
Mr. Matsuda acknowledged Pakistan’s role in making Afghan Peace Process successful. He said Japanese government is willing to work together with Pakistan to bring peace and prosperity in the region once it is out of the pandemic. Swati said that efforts of those involved in fight against the pandemic must not be forgotten.
