JRL calls for shutdown on Sunday against Modi’s IOK visit

Srinagar, January 31, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has asked the Kashmiris to observe a complete shutdown on Sunday (February 3) against Indian Prime Minister, Nerandra Modi’s visit to the territory.

The JRL said five years of Nerandra Modi’s rule were marred with tyranny and oppression in Kashmir. The leadership said during these years blood of innocent Kashmiris has been spilled ruthlessly, eyesight of young and old has been snatched by pellets, residential houses have been blasted and set on fire violently and thousands of young and old have been put into jails and thus lives of the Kashmiris have been turned into hell.

It said a person who in his pursuit to crush genuine Kashmiris’ demand of right to self-determination ordered killings, arrests, destruction of properties and other oppressive measures deserves only protest and resentment.

It said when Nerandra Modi assumed the office of prime minister in 2014, he on priority basis adopted and implemented a vicious iron fist policy to crush the Kashmiris. His government came out with policies like construction of Israeli type settlements for Kashmiri pundits, separate colonies for ex-Indian army personnel and providing a permanent residentship to West Pakistan refugees living in Kashmir, the leadership deplored. It said how the people of Kashmir can celebrate Modi’s arrival as it is his regime that turned the lives of Muslims in Jammu into a hell, forcing many of them to migrate from their homeland. “How can we overlook the efforts of Modi and his regime that are hell bent to change demography of Jammu and Kashmir under the garb of revoking 35A and other acts like these” it added.

The JRL said when people of Kashmir resisted these anti-Kashmiri moves in an exemplary manner, Modi government started a spree of killings, maiming, destruction of residential houses, snatching eyesight of young and old by pellets, implementing tax regimes like GST to further damage Kashmiri economy and business and other kinds of oppressive acts which are still going on unabated. It said this is a systematic plan to continue loot of Kashmir’s resources and completely undermine economy and make Kashmiris beggars before New Delhi. “Our resources are being utilized to light up Indian states as we the people of Kashmir despite paying heavy bills are being deprived of electricity in extreme cold season and further more threatened to privatize electricity by installing pre-paid meters and so on,” it added. The JRL said people of the occupied territory will never allow this loot and will resist it forcefully.
