JRL calls shutdown in IOK on August 15

Srinagar, August 11, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for complete shutdown in the territory on 15th August, India’s Independence Day. Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement while calling for the shutdown appealed to the people to observe the 15th August as Black Day.

They said that an atmosphere of fear had been created in occupied Kashmir through frisking and harassment of people at the checkpoints established by the Indian forces in the run-up to August 15.

They said that the Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru in historic Lal Chowk and then in the Indian Parliament had announced that the people of Kashmir would be given their right to self-determination. They deplored that the commitment of the Indian prime minister was not honoured despite the passage of several decades. The resistance leaders urged India to realize the ground reality and come forward to settle the lingering Kashmir dispute according to the will of the Kashmiri people.
