Karachi, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Livestock, Fisheries, and Human Settlement, Syed Najmi Alam, has emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations to safeguard the livestock of Sindh against various diseases. He issued this directive during a key meeting with senior officials from the Livestock and Fisheries Department.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting, held at the Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Office, was attended by Director Generals and Directors of the department, along with Secretary Dr. Hafeez Ahmed Sial. Alam stressed the need for the department to maintain a sufficient stock of vaccines and explore developing these vaccines locally through departmental research institutes to reduce reliance on foreign sources and potentially supply other regions, like Punjab.
Alam also highlighted the utilization of young professionals in the department, pointing out the potential to leverage the skills of newly graduated individuals who approach the department for employment. Additionally, he addressed the poor conditions of cattle colonies and departmental buildings, criticizing the slow pace of new construction projects managed by the works department. Plans to discuss these issues with the Chief Minister were outlined as urgent needs to resolve infrastructural inefficiencies.
The briefing also revealed that enhancing the capacity of the department’s vaccine manufacturing laboratory would require additional funding, for which proposals may need to be prepared for special assistance from the Sindh government or for potential World Bank projects.
