Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry pays rich tribute to outgoing Turkish Consul General Mr. Fethi Etem

Karachi: Mr. Siraj Kassam Teli Chairman BMG group and Ex-President Karachi Chamber lauded the efforts and painstaking by outgoing Turkish Consul General Mr. Fethi Etem for bringing business communities of the two countries closer and said the frequent visits of high level dignitaries of both the countries reflect close, deep and historic relations. He stressed to further strengthen trade ties between the two brotherly countries. He was speaking on the occasion of farewell party arranged in honour of Mr. Fethi Etem , the outgoing consul general of Turkey in Karachi.

Mr. Saeed Shafiq on the occasion said Pak Turk Friendship is ever green and long-lasting. He said he would never forget the warm welcome he and his other colleagues received by Turkish government and people during his visit to Turkey in March 2011.He paid rich tribute to Mr. Fethi Etem and said Karachi’s business community whenever contacted him he was always cordial and cooperative. He further said that Pakistan is very keen to enhance its trade with Turkey as we believe in “Trade Not Aid”.

Turkey was just becoming the leading hub for Pakistan for textile as after USA and EU huge quantities are being shipped in Grey and Denim qualities. Turkey is importing over $ 350 million textile products from Pakistan including US$ 237 million fabrics. Turkey has decided to levy additional 18% custom duty to be charged on the import of denim fabric from Pakistan it will be a major blow to Pakistani export and both the countries leadership’s desire to enhance bilateral trade to US$ 2 billion could not be materialized. He expressed hope this will be resolved amicably.

Mr. Fethi Etem said during his three years tenure he witnessed KCCI leadership keen interest to boost trade ties with his country. He said Pakistan is a valued friend of Turkey and he, his leadership and people know very well that misperception about Pakistan spread by certain media is absolutely wrong. He said last year about 7000 visas has been issued to Pakistani business people and hopefully this year it will surpass the previous year figure. Mr. Majyd Aziz ex-President and Mr. Asif Nisar MC Member KCCI also spoke on the occasion.
