Karachi – Hyderabad Motorway M-9 Discussed In Finance Ministry

Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh discussed the progress of Karachi-Hyderabad (M-9) while presiding here a meeting today. The meeting highlighted the importance of this project for the uplift of Sindh province as well as for overall economic prosperity of the country.

The meeting was informed that this project covers the conversion of existing 4-lane highway into 6-lane through addition of 1-lane at both sides of the road. The project also includes the improvement of existing 2-lanes of the road. The cost of projects is Rs.24.930 million on BOT basis and construction period would be 30 months. In the same way, groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the end of February 2012.

While addressing the meeting, Finance Minister stressed that transparency must be ensured in the execution of this project and construction period should be reduced from 30 months to 12 months.

Mr. Ghulam Murtaza Satti, Advisor, IPDF, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Special Secretary Finance, Secretary Communications, Chairman- NHA and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
