Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator inspects Mehran Hotel and Shaheen Complex locations for construction of flyovers

Karachi, December 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has said that all arrangements for construction of Flyovers on Mehran Hotel and Shaheen Complex Intersections have been completed. Traffic flow has also been reviewed along with all necessary things. A report on the things which were coming in the way was also prepared.

He said this while inspecting both locations where he was accompanied by Director General Engineering Department and other concerned Project Directors.

Administrator Karachi said that traffic flow with DIG Traffic was also reviewed in detail after which necessary changes were made in the design of flyovers so that better and positive outcomes could be achieved.

He said that the traffic on I.I Chundrigar Road going towards Arts Council had 80 percent flow in morning and evening times whereas traffic flow from I.I Chundrigar Road to Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road was 15 percent and traffic flow from S.M Law College to Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road was 5 to 6 percent. Construction of flyover on this location would make 95 traffic pass signal free.

He said that flyover on Shaheen Complex Intersection would have 175 meter length and 303 meter length of ramp on both sides and this flyover would be constructed with a cost of Rs536million whereas flyover on Mehran Hotel Intersection would be constructed with a cost of Rs459million.

He said that traffic would not be shifted on alternative routes during construction of these flyovers and girders of these flyovers would be prepared on other location and shifted here in night times so that traffic flow on both central locations would maintain and citizens would not have to face inconvenience.

He said that traffic on Sharae Faisal could not be disturbed due to VIP movement and Airport Road therefore material of flyover would be prepared on pre-cast basis.

Administrator Karachi said that the projects for which amount has been allocated in current fiscal year would be completed in any case and funds for development projects would not be wasted.
