Pakistan Sustainable Transport Project participates in Islamabad Bicycle Mega ride for promotion of eco-friendly and sustainable transport in Pakistan

Islamabad, December 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Sustainable Transport Project (PAKSTRAN) participated in a bicycle rally organized by Shehersaaz and Critical Mass Islamabad (CMI) to celebrate Transport Day. This event was executed in collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) at the Fatima-Jinnah Park.

The event brought together Civil Society Organizations and other private institutions working towards the goal of alleviating the impact of climate change. The event was attended by fitness enthusiasts of all ages and walks of life that cycled from the Mehran Gate to F-8 and made it back smoothly within an hour.

The Chief Guest of the event Mr. Ahsan Ali Mangi (Member Environment – Capital Development Authority, Islamabad) expressed his support for the PAKSTRAN project and was also optimistic about meeting the objective of providing a dedicated lane on the roads of Islamabad to cyclists and pedestrians.

Other speakers at the event included Ms. Almas Saleem (National Coordinator – Shehersaaz), Mr. Saadullah Ayaz (Component Manager – PAKISTAN, International Union for Conservation of Nature – IUCN), Senior Superintendant Police, Mr. AsmatullahJunejo; all discussed the immense potential for the implementation of sustainable, safe and reliable transport systems in the Capital. At the conclusion the efforts of PAKSTRAN towards achieving this goal were acknowledged by the participants.
