Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator warns contractors to change their ways

Karachi, August 09, 2015 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has warned the contractors and consultants of development projects that they would hardly get work in this city if they caused disrepute to government or trouble for the citizens. Imposing fine on the contractor of Jam Sadiq Bridge and issuing show cause to the consultant firm and chief engineer he advised them to change their ways and habits and ensure timely completion of public welfare works.

In a whirlwind visit of different city areas on the night intervening Saturday and Sunday he also announced to open the Mehran Underpass for vehicular traffic by the end of August and Malir Halt flyover in next few days whereas Malir 15 Flyover would be available for traffic in next four months. Talking to media representatives at University Road, administrator Karachi said all street lights at major corridors had been restored completely and the road repairing and carpeting work was started in night hours on war footing basis.

Citizens of Karachi would themselves see the change around them now. He said from now on KMC would not say that work could not be done due to shortage of funds. Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said it was decided three days ago in a meeting with the Metropolitan Commissioner, Financial Advisor and other officers to carry out repairing of roads so that the citizens could be saved from traffic jam, accidents and crimes while travelling in the city.

A sum of Rs35million was immediately provided from KMC resources to begin the repairing and patch working of roads without delay. Praising the skills and experience of KMC officers he said these are hardworking officials and just need motivation so that the journey of progress in Karachi could carry on. He said the government has released the funds for all projects and now there should be no delay in their completion.

He said those consultant who did not performed satisfactorily will be banned to work in Karachi division. On the inspection of Jam Sadiq Bridge he expressed annoyance on this that despite of clear directive the contractor did not carry out work in night hours for which he instructed to impose fine of Rs1 lac on the contractor firm Kamran and Company and issue show cause notice to the consultant firm and the concerned chief engineer.

On the visit of Malir Halt Flyover, Administrator Karachi directed concerned officials to start beautification work of roads and pavements beneath and around the bridge. While inspecting work on Malir 15 Flyover, he instructed the staff to speed up work and ensure good quality in the construction work.

Administrator Karachi in his long visit went to Rashid Minhas Road, University Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, S.M Taufiq Road Liaquatabad, Jail Chowrangi, NIPA Chowrangi, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Tariq Road, Kashmir Road, Shara-e-Quaideen, M.A Jinnah Road and other roads and also reviewed the street lights system.
