Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Command and Control Centre revamped

Karachi, March 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad inaugurated the revamped Command and Control Centre of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) during a ceremony held at the Governor House on Thursday.

The participants of the ceremony were informed that 710 fixed cameras and 200 PTZ have been installed in addition to the laying of 115 kilometres of fiber with full redundancy. Besides, IBM servers and storage were used and state-of-the-art video wall was also installed, as the old Command Centre has been completely revamped to expand the sitting capacity of the operators monitoring the covered area.

The governor said various measures were being taken to provide full security to the business community in the metropolis. “The command and control system will help eradicate crimes in the industrial zones and business hub of Karachi and will work under the monitoring of police and Rangers”.

Senior Sindh Minister Nisar Khuhro, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui and CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy also addressed the ceremony.

Farooqui said the KMC had initiated the installation of electronic surveillance system by establishing a Command and Control Centre which works under the supervision of Sindh Police and Mehran Rangers but it was being maintained and financed by the KMC.

“This system has considerably helped in improving the performance of law enforcement agencies and has become an important part of criminal investigation and prevention,” he claimed.

The tenders for the installation of this project were invited in 2013 and successful bidder was awarded the contract to provide 910 cameras at over 200 locations which were previously identified. The system has been specifically devised to coordinate security efforts with the police, fire department and other authorities.
