Kashmir virtually converted into a prison: Mehbooba

Srinagar, February 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, demanding immediate release of the youth arrested by police in the past few days, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has said that the territory has been virtually converted into a prison.

Mehboob Mufti, condemning the increasing intolerance of the regime towards the people in her address to the so-called Kashmir Assembly session in Jammu, said there is genuine sense of alienation among people as teenagers are arrested under draconian laws. Bandipore police have arrested several boys under draconian Public Safety Act and at least two of them are even below 1 3 years, she deplored.

She said imprisonment of teenagers, who should have been in school, is the real poster of present regime’s performance. Mehbooba said that there is a sense of anger in Kashmir.

She said it has been the practice of the present regime t to use curfew and curbs as the substitute to democratic method of engaging with alienated people.

She said the authorities have lost the argument on human rights violation and has lost moral courage to engage with its own people in a decent manner.
