Kashmiri Journalists Face Challenges Amid Global Observance of Day Against Impunity

Srinagar: As the world marks the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, Kashmiri journalists continue to encounter significant challenges for reporting on the ground realities of the region.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed November 2 as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. The resolution condemns all attacks on journalists and calls on states to ensure a safe environment for media professionals to work independently.

A report by Kashmir Media Service, released in connection with the observance, highlights the difficult conditions under which journalists in Kashmir operate. It notes that they are frequently subjected to punitive measures under stringent laws for their efforts to report the truth. The report also alleges that the BJP-led Indian government employs restrictive laws and undemocratic tactics to suppress media freedom in the region.
