Kattar Bund Road Industrial Association criticise Water and Sanitation Agency for not fulfilling their commitment for construction of sewerage line in Industrial area

Lahore, January 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): Kattar Bund Road Industrial Association on Friday severely criticized the WASA authorities for not fulfilling their commitment made in connection with construction of main sewerage line in the Industrial area that has caused blockade of all roads in the industrial estate.

In a joint statement issued here Thursday, the President Kattar Bund Industrial Association Mehmood Ghaznvi, Vice President Mian Mohammad Nawaz and Secretary Chaudhry Mohammad Yousaf said that the area industrialists were unable to unstand the logic behind the digging of most part of the sewerage line at the same time against the commitment of work on 100 feet area in one go.

They said that it was agreed between the Industrialists and the WASA authorities that the work on 100 feet sewerage line would be completed first and then digging on the other 100 feet would be started but unfortunately little attention was given to this decision.

They said that the vehicular traffic in the industrial area has come to a grinding halt due to heaps of earth all around. Mehmood Ghaznavi said that the power and gas shortage had already stopped the economic activities but such mindless decisions of the bureaucracy were adding fuel to the fire.

They said that they appreciate Chief Minister Punjab Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif for giving a special focus on infrastructure development in the province but at the same time also want of him to direct the concerned officers to carry out the needed work in consultation with stakeholders.

They said that there was no denying the fact that the Sewerage line initiated by the Punjab government was much needed step but it must be in consultation with area industrialists as there exist a lot unrest among the industrial units working in the industrial estate. They underlined that there are 150 multinational and local industrial units in Kattar Bund Industrial area and are paying an amount of Rs 1 billion to the national exchequer.

Mehmood Ghaznavi said that the industrial units in the estate include a renowned multinational pharmaceutical company, food industry with a bread and milk processing plant and auto parts manufacturers. He said a transformer-manufacturing concern and a state-of-the-art plastic product unit were also operative in the area.
