Khawaja Asif meets president of Three Gorges Corporation and exchange views on enhancing collaboration in energy sector

Islamabad, January 08, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif met with the President of China’s Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) Mr. Chen Fei here today and exchanged views on enhancing collaboration in the energy sector. CTG is involved in five power generation projects including two hydro power, two wind power and one solar power project in Pakistan, says a press release received from Beijing here today.

Khawaja Asif said that CTG has vast experience in energy generation through hydel and alternative energy sources. He hoped that CTG will fully apply its vast experience to mitigate the energy crisis in Pakistan.

The Minister invited CTG to undertake a comprehensive survey of suitable locations in Pakistan for setting up wind farms. The minister hoped that CTG will complete their ongoing projects in Pakistan as early as possible.

The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was giving top priority to overcome the energy demand-supply deficit. In this regard, government is tapping the vast coal reserves at Thar, utilizing the wind corridors in coastal areas of Sindh and Baluchistan, setting up Gaddani Power Park, and through hydel projects such as Bhasha, Bunji, Dasu etc. Coal based power plants are also envisaged to be set up in Punjab, he informed.

Mr. Chen Fei expressed keen interest in the upcoming energy projects in Pakistan and assured his company’s continued support in hydel, coal, wind and solar energy projects. CTG also hosted a lunchon for Minister and members of his entourage. Ambassador Masood Khalid was also present on the occasion.
