KTMF calls for release of trade leader Yasin Khan

Srinagar, March 26, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has demanded an immediate release of its President, Muhammad Yaseen Khan, who is illegally detained at Agra Central Jail in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh since August, last year.

The KTMF Acting President, Manzoor Ahmed Butt, in a statement issued in Srinagar said Muhammad Yasin Khan, who also heads Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), is a senior citizen and is suffering from multiple ailments like hypertension, asthma and breathlessness issues which make him susceptible to coronavirus.

He said, “We are in midst of horrible medical emergency and health care systems all over the globe are surrendering, thus urge the Government of India to consider the immediate release of Muhammad Yasin Khan along with many other political detainees lodged in various jails across India.”

Manzoor Ahmed Butt said, various medical studies suggest that prisons can become fertile breeding grounds for incubation thus viruses such as COVID-19 proliferate in closed spaces such as prisons. “Also prison inmates are highly prone to contagious viruses and several correctional officers and other prison staff, relatives of prisoners and lawyers enter the prisons regularly making prisoners highly vulnerable to this deadly disease,” he said.

Expressing serious concern in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak that has gripped the entire world, the KTMF acting President also said that the Indian government must also restore uninterrupted 4G internet services to ensure that people have access to health and safety related information regarding COVID-19.
