Karachi, On the occasion of World Water Day, March 22, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) CEO, Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, expressed pride in the progress made towards meeting Karachi’s water supply and sewerage needs despite numerous civic challenges. Highlighting the Corporation’s achievements, Ahmed emphasized the team’s success in enhancing revenue, embracing digital innovations to combat illegal connections, and prioritizing the efficient delivery of services to citizens. A key focus for KWSC has been ensuring equitable water distribution, especially providing clean water to informal settlements to reduce waterborne diseases.
According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, the past year saw KWSC increase its revenue recovery by 35% through the elimination of illegal connections, securing an additional 25 million gallons of water per day for fair distribution among the citizens. These strides are a testament to the team’s commitment and the potential for positive change in water management.
World Water Day serves as a reminder of the crucial role of fresh water and the urgency of addressing the global water crisis. Since 1993, the United Nations has used this day to focus on sustainable water resource development and to advocate for fresh drinking water as a fundamental human right essential for societal, economic, and environmental well-being.
KWSC has chosen to mark World Water Day with enthusiasm under the theme “Water For Peace,” aiming to raise awareness about water conservation, recycling, and reuse. The Corporation invites collaboration from various organizations, civil society, multinationals, and national NGOs, as well as the Ministry of Health and the Department of Education. The goal is to underscore the importance of water conservation through seminars organized in schools, universities, colleges, and hospitals, ensuring future generations recognize the value of water and its sustainable use.
This initiative by KWSC is not just a celebration but a call to action for the community to join hands in conserving this precious resource, highlighting the organization’s ongoing efforts to provide improved water supply and sewerage facilities to the citizens of Karachi.
