Lahore District Bar Association delegation Calls on Chief Justice of Pakistan

Islamabad, July 02, 2012 (PPI-OT): An 08 Member delegation of Lahore District Bar Association headed by its President Ch. Zulfiqar Ali and comprising Malik Ejaz Khokhar, Senior President, Rana Javid Bashir, Vice President and other office bearers called on the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary today on 02.07.2012 in the Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.

The members of the delegation informed the Hon’ble Chief Justice that the Lahore Bar is the biggest Bar of Asia and more than 23,000 members are enrolled therein. They discussed with the Chief Justice, issues and matters of interest of the legal/judicial fraternity and thanked the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan for sparing time from his busy schedule.

They further said that his lordship is a ray of hope and he is held in high esteem by whole nation due to his professional commitment, legal acumen and dedications for cause of supremacy of Constitution, rule of law and independence of judiciary.

The members informed the Hon’ble Chief Justice that there are members of the Bar who say that previously they hardly had any aim of their life but now after the lawyers’ movement they have aim of their lives i.e. the independence of judiciary, supremacy of the law and the Constitution.

The delegation discussed with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry the problems relating to the Lahore Bar. They informed the Hon’ble Chief Justice that special courts are scattered in different localities/places in Lahore.

They face problems to attend the cases and ultimately there occurs delay in disposal of cases. They requested for provision of a court complex under one roof to facilitate litigants as well as lawyers.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry assured that their problems would be discussed at proper forum. Praising the efforts of Lahore Bar during the days of the movement, his lordship said that the Lahore Bar played effective and valuable role for rule of Law, supremacy of Constitution and independence of judiciary in the country and their sacrifice for the cause is beyond compare in the judicial history of the country.

The delegation made a request to the Hon’ble Chief Justice for constituting Benches on regular basis for disposal of cases at Branch Registry Lahore, which was acceded to by the Hon’ble Chief Justice.

The delegation invited Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan to visit Lahore Bar. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan accepted the invitation and assured to visit the Lahore Bar in September this year.
