Karachi: Provincial Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani said Japan Government was making investment in various projects for bringing improvement in the standard of life of Pakistanis. Japanese technology has provided us sustainable benefits on local level.
He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on Karachi Transportation Master Plan 2030 held in a local hotel on Thursday.
The seminar was jointly arranged by the City Government Karachi and JICA. Administrator Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed, JICA team leader Minoru Shibuya and Project Director KMTC Rasheed Mughal were also present on this occasion.
Agha Siraj Durrani praised the survey aimed at improvement of transport system in Karachi. He said that the city of Karachi had been facing transport problems due to regular increase in its population.
He expressed hope that the transport plan for Karachi which has been worked out by Japan Government would not only pave way for more investment in the transport sector but also provide better travel facilities to people.
Speaking on this occasion Administrator/DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed said that the city presently needs improvement in its transport system.
He announced that new buses will soon ply on the two corridors of Karachi under Bus Rapid Transport System. Complete study on the improvement of transport system in Karachi would be done by June 2012. Federal government had already slashed sales tax on CNG Buses. This would not only bring difference in the price of buses but also ensure better facilities for people.
He said at present 20 million citizens in Karachi were deprived of better transport facilities. Local and foreign investors should avail this opportunity and invest in the mega transport projects in Karachi. We will provide them all possible facilities.
Administrator Karachi thanked Japan Government for providing cooperation in the improvement of transport system in Karachi. The seminar was also addressed by JICA team leader Minoru Shibuya.
