M.A. Jabbar Khan advises SMEDA to explore more collaboration possibilities with development institutions and international agencies to strengthen SME sector in the country

Lahore, September 30, 2016 (PPI-OT): Mr. M.A. Jabbar Khan, Member Board of Directors of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has advised SMEDA to explore more collaboration possibilities with development institutions and international agencies to strengthen SME sector in the country. He stated this in a meeting with Mr. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, General Manager Outreach, SMEDA.

However, Mr. M.A. Jabbar Khan appreciated the pilot initiative of SMEDA Sindh office and UNDP Pakistan to train 500 youth in Pakistan on self-employment under UNDP’s Youth Employment Project. He advised the organization to make efforts to expand this project. He praised the hard work of the organization in executing 27 PSDP funded projects that are economically very beneficial and positively impacting the lives of ordinary people in various fields of life.

Mr. Jabbar urged SMEDA to strengthen working relations with trade bodies so as to make the ongoing process of SME development in the country more effective and result oriented. He was confident that private sector’s active participation in implementation of SMEDA development initiatives could prove to be very help in serving the SMEs.

Earlier, SMEDA GM Outreach informed that SMEDA had facilitated a total investment of Rs.1.1 billion in various SME based projects during last financial year. In a presentation highlighting achievements made by the organization in business and investment facilitation, he told that over 6,300 SMEs were facilitated during the last financial year by SMEDA, besides preparing 22 business plans for serious investors. Besides facilitating over a billion rupees investment, around 5,500 SMEs were also benefited through management and technical initiatives of SMEDA, he added.
