Karachi, June 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistani students can acquire quality and higher education at an affordable cost in Malaysia which is fast becoming a higher education hub in Asia. This was said by Malaysian Consul General Mr Abu Bakar Mamat, at the inauguration of the two-day Tenth Study Malaysia Education Exhibition which began in Karachi yesterday.
The Tenth Study Malaysia Education Exhibition held in Pearl Continental Hotel, drew huge crowds mainly high school students mostly accompanied by parents. The participants explored options available in Malaysia to suit their career options and budgets.
The Malaysian Consul General said UNESCO (United Nation Education Science and Cultural Organisation) has ranked Malaysia ninth in the world as a preferred destination for international students. The high standard and excellent facilities Malaysian universities provide, are key to attracting foreign students, he added.
He said Malaysia presently has 21 public Universities, 5 branch campuses of UK and Australian Universities, more than 33 private universities and over 500 higher education institutes that provide a diverse range of courses in various areas of specialisation.
Talking to the media, the Malaysian Consul General pointed out the high standards, commitment and satisfaction Malaysian higher education institutes have ensured in the last decade for international students. He said, “Malaysia is serious and committed to the cause of education and programmes on offer in our universities and higher institutions of learning meet international standards, which is why we have over 93,000 foreign students presently studying in the country.” Mr Mamat said the target is to reach a 100,000 foreign students base soon.
The Malaysian envoy praised the efforts of North Pole International Managing Director Mr Babar Bashir Ahmed for promoting Malaysia as a top study destination in Pakistan. He expressed his satisfaction over efforts to ensure people in Pakistan are aware about Malaysian education.
The organiser of Study Malaysia Education Exhibition, North Pole International Managing Director Mr Babar Bashir Ahmed in his address said Malaysia had emerged as one of the main education markets in Pakistan due to several advantages and this was evident from the fact over 3,000 Pakistanis had chosen Malaysia to pursue higher education in last four years. He described affordable tuition fee and cost of living as major factors for popularising Malaysia for higher education in Pakistan.
He said the average yearly tuition fee in Malaysia is $6,000 compared to $22,000 and $14,000 in the US and UK respectively while a student’s average yearly cost of living in Malaysia is $3,500 against $13,000-$15,000 in the US and UK.
The exhibition will go to Islamabad where it will be held in Islamabad Hotel on 2nd July 2013 before concluding at Avari Hotel, Lahore with another two-day event on 4th and 5th July.
