Malik arrested, put under house detention in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian police arrested the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, immediately after he landed at the Srinagar airport, today.

Muhammad Yasin Malik had returned to Srinagar after about one and a half month’s private tour of Pakistan. He was, later, dropped at his residence and put under house arrest. People took to the streets in Maisuma area of Srinagar and staged protests against arrest of the JKLF Chief. They raised high-pitched pro-liberation slogans.

The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, who is under house arrest in Srinagar, in a media interview expressed concern over the reign of terror unleashed by Indian forces across the Valley to suppress the protests against the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru. He maintained that New Delhi was using its all military might to crush the Kashmiris’ just struggle but failed in its nefarious designs.

Muttahida Majlis-e-Mushawrat after a meeting in Srinagar, today, issued fresh protest calendar for the next week. It asked the people to hold protests after Maghrib prayers, tomorrow. It called upon the government employees to stage one hour pen down strike on Tuesday. The MMM called for observance of civil curfew on Wednesday.

It appealed to the Kashmiris living abroad and their sympathizers to stage protest outside Indian embassies on Thursday. The statement asked the Imams of mosques to hold special prayers and lead protest demonstrations after Friday prayers. The Muttahida Majlis-e-Mushawrat said that the students of colleges and universities would stage protests on Saturday.

The Dukhtaran-e-Millat in a statement in Srinagar condemned the forcible shifting of its ailing Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, from Soura hospital to her home and arrest of the party activist, Fahmeeda Sofi, by Indian police, yesterday.

The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party in a statement denounced the attack on Muhammad Yasin Malik at New Delhi airport by activists of Hindu extremist parties, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party on his arrival from Islamabad, the other day.
