Karachi, August 06 2013 (PPI-OT): Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid during a meeting with Deputy Managing Directors, Chief Engineers and Superintendent Engineers directed that Financial and Administrative discipline should be maintained throughout all departments.
All legal procedures, formalities and merit must be followed while conducting daily routine. Head of each department would be responsible and answerable for maintaining just and fair operations. Meeting was held to inspect KW and SB performance during the rain.
During the meeting M.D KW and SB said that due to rain water coming from Interior Sindh especially from Hyderabad, Dadu, Kotri and other cities lower ground level areas including Saadi Town, North Karachi, Surjani Town and other areas were flooded. Whereas, rain drain canals in Karachi were unable to sewage the water putting the pressure on Malir River. KW and SB sewerage system has been working throughout the rain and drained water from various areas and generators were used in some areas during electricity breakdowns due to rain.
The general perception that KW and SB is responsible for rain drain is not true since Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) rain drain canals are chocked due to lack of cleaning and illegal constructions. He said that KW and SB sewerage system was functional throughout the rain and praised the efforts of KW and SB officers who worked day and night during the rain. Furthermore our work is not done yet and we have to ensure that due to rain the system is not blocked by sand and garbage therefore special attention must be given to sewerage system.
He directed Chief Engineers to maintain full coordination with Elected Representatives and through our actions prove that KW and SB is fulfilling its responsibilities. He said that water supply must be maintained to ensure that during repair work at Hub Canal all areas get fair supply.
Directing DMD TS and Chief Engineer Bulk to complete the repair work as soon as possible he said that especial attention must be given to safety of conduits and installation through proper monitoring. He said that during the rain he was in complete coordination with Minister Local bodies and conducted visits in the city with him to ensure that KW and SB takes immediate action wherever necessary.
He directed that Diesel Records must be maintained and unannounced inspection would be carried out, unnecessary expenses must be avoided and all operations must be carried out with honesty. He directed all DMDs to stay vigilant and fulfil their duties with professional excellence, honesty and hard work. They must ensure that their junior staff is working properly and maintain coordination with Elected Representatives. He said that pressure for illegal tasks must be rejected to ensure crystal clear operations.
He praised Jetting Machine In charge Ali Ahmed for cooperating with Chief Engineers and also praised Chief Engineers on their performance during the rain.
