Islamabad, In a significant development for educational technology in Pakistan, the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP), Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, launched Microsoft Learn for Educators at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) headquarters. This new platform is aimed at enhancing the AI skills of the country’s educator community.
According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the event also saw the introduction of Microsoft for Startups – Founders Hub, which is designed to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem among students. The ceremony was part of the HEC-Microsoft Campus Connect Day 2024 and was attended by a host of dignitaries, including vice chancellors, faculty members, and IT experts.
Chairman PMYP, Rana Mashhood, highlighted the success of Pakistani students under the HEC-Microsoft partnership as a testament to the country’s bright future in technological advancement. He emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and providing young Pakistanis with the necessary platforms to excel globally.
HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed remarked on the critical role of technology in national progress and underscored the achievements under the long-standing HEC-Microsoft collaboration. He also pointed out the comprehensive digital access provided to university students and researchers across Pakistan through initiatives like the Pakistan Education and Research Network and the HEC Digital Library.
The event also included insights from Jaye Richard Hill, Director of Education at Microsoft Central and Eastern Europe, who participated online. She discussed the enduring importance of higher education amidst rapid technological changes and the essential skills needed for the AI era. Hill also touched upon the challenges of cybersecurity in higher education and the role of Microsoft certifications in preparing students for future job markets.
Country Principal Microsoft, Mr. Jibran Jamshed, in his welcome note, highlighted the significant contributions of Pakistani students in global competitions such as the Imagine Cup and stressed the rapid adoption of AI tools in the country.
