Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent religious and political leader in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has been placed under house arrest, hindering his participation in the significant religious event of Khawaja Digar. This restriction prevented him from delivering a customary sermon at Naqsband Sahib, marking another year of his absence from this pivotal religious gathering.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this action represents the fifth consecutive year that authorities have prevented the Mirwaiz from attending Khawaja Digar, an event deeply rooted in the traditions of Kashmiri Muslims. The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid strongly criticized the imposition of house arrest, labeling it as “blatant interference in religious affairs” and called for the immediate lifting of these restrictions to allow Mirwaiz to carry out his religious duties.

The continued confinement of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has sparked significant concern and condemnation within the community, as it not only restricts his personal freedoms but also impacts the religious rights of the followers who attend the sermon annually.
