Islamabad: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the firing by Indian troops during ongoing protests in the Ladakh region. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement from Srinagar, emphasized that the unrest in Ladakh is a result of New Delhi’s unilateral decision on August 5, 2019, which altered the status of Jammu and Kashmir without the consent of its people.
According to Radio Pakistan, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged that promises made to the people of Ladakh should be fulfilled promptly to prevent further loss of life and restore peace in the region. In a simultaneous development, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under strict house arrest, with barbed wire barricades blocking all access to his residence in Srinagar.
This security measure was enacted ahead of a planned meeting of the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema at his residence. The meeting was to include leaders of major religious organizations to discuss issues arising from the interim Supreme Court judgment on the Waqf and other significant social and religious matters.
