Modi govt drops references to Sikhs as separate nation from syllabus

New Delhi, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): In an attempt to snatch away the identity of Sikh minority, the Modi government has removed references to Khalistan, or a separate Sikh nation from syllabus. The Sikh references have been removed from the political science textbook for Class 12 students of All India Secondary School Examination, commonly known as board exams (CBSE).

“From the last sentence of the third paragraph under the sub-heading ‘Punjab’ the line’…but it could also be interpreted as a plea for a separate Sikh nation’ is dropped. …In the same section (Sub-heading ‘Punjab’), from the last sentence of the fourth paragraph, ‘… and the creation of Khalistan’ is dropped” India’s National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which oversees the syllabus, said in an official statement.

The soft copy of the Class 12 Political Science textbook with changes is uploaded on the NCERT’s website, it added.
