Secretary Workers Welfare Fund Zulfiqar Ahmad Visits Manila to Attend Asia Gulf Cooperation Council Dialogue on Sustainable Development Goals

Islamabad, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Secretary Workers Welfare Fund (WWF), Zulfiqar Ahmad arrived in Manila on May 30, 2023, to participate in the Asia Gulf Cooperation Council (AGCC) Dialogue on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals. The visit, scheduled for May 30-31, aimed to address crucial labour reforms and tackle issues related to migrant labour. The Secretary, accompanied by Aakif Iqbal from the Bureau of Immigration, embarked on this important mission to discuss pressing concerns affecting workers and migrants in the region. The AGCC Dialogue provided a platform for key stakeholders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and develop strategies to achieve sustainable development goals with a focus on labour welfare.

During the event, the Secretary emphasized the significance of robust labour reforms to ensure the well-being and rights of workers, particularly migrant labourers who often face unique challenges. The discussion centered on improving working conditions, enhancing social protection measures, and promoting equal opportunities for all workers in the Asia Gulf region. The Secretary also highlighted the importance of cooperation among AGCC member countries to address the systemic issues affecting migrant labour. By sharing experiences, knowledge, and expertise, the participating nations aimed to develop effective policies that would enhance the overall welfare of workers in the region.
