Srinagar: The mother of Tanveer-ul-Islam, a prominent resistance leader advocating for Kashmiri self-determination, has died at her home in Budgam district, Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Tanveer-ul-Islam, who fled to Azad Kashmir in 1990 amid rising tensions and Indian authority actions, has long been separated from his mother. He founded the Sawera Model School in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, to provide education for Kashmiri migrant students.
Efforts by his mother to visit him in Azad Kashmir were consistently denied by Indian authorities. This restriction highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Kashmiri families due to what many describe as oppressive policies.
In response to her passing, leaders from the Hurriyet Conference in both Indian-administered and Azad Jammu and Kashmir expressed their condolences. They extended prayers for the deceased and support for Tanveer-ul-Islam and his family.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, also conveyed his sorrow. In a statement from Islamabad, he offered prayers for the deceased and strength for the family in coping with their loss.
