NC Administration Pressured to Deliver on Jammu and Kashmir Promises

Jammu: The All Parties United Morcha, a coalition of political, social, and civil society groups in the contested region of Jammu and Kashmir, has called on the National Conference administration to honor commitments made to the area’s residents ahead of upcoming elections.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the Morcha addressed a press conference in Jammu, highlighting that despite a resolution passed by the National Conference government supporting the pre-August 5, 2019 status of Jammu and Kashmir, tangible benefits have yet to materialize for the populace.

I.D. Khajuria, Convener of the All Parties United Morcha, urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah to advocate strongly for the Indian government to reinstate statehood and special status, and to secure job and land rights for residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

Khajuria expressed concerns over the influence of outsiders in contracts, jobs, and local governance, which, he claims, has placed local businesses under economic strain. He also called for solutions to the issues faced by daily wagers and various workers, and for investigations into alleged corruption in several government departments and projects.

Khajuria reminded the National Conference to deliver on its manifesto promises, which include restoring Article 370 and 35-A, reinstating statehood, and repealing laws enacted post-August 5, 2019. The party has also vowed to protect local land and employment rights, promote dialogue between Pakistan and India, and repeal certain laws deemed oppressive.

The press conference included representatives from numerous organizations, emphasizing the collective pressure on the National Conference to act on its commitments.
