NDMA alerts departments amid 1st monsoon spell

National Disaster Management Authority has issued an advisory to all federal and provincial departments concerned to ensure preparedness for first monsoon spell forecast from tomorrow (Monday) till Saturday.

The advisory report said rain, wind-thundershowers with few heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

It further said heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala and Lahore from Tuesday to Friday.

Heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas of northeast Balochistan also from Thursday to Saturday.
