NDMA Issues Flood Alert for Major Pakistani Cities Amid Torrential Rains

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent advisory warning of potential urban flooding in several major cities across Pakistan due to expected torrential rains from the evening of August 18 to August 19, 2024. This weather event is anticipated to particularly affect low-lying areas in key urban centers including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Peshawar, among others.

According to Press Information Department, the National Emergencies Operation Center has forecasted heavy downpours that could lead to significant urban flooding. The NDMA has advised the public to closely monitor weather updates and stay prepared by downloading the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, which provides real-time alerts and guidelines. Residents in affected areas are urged to heed instructions from local authorities and take all necessary precautions to safeguard against the impending adverse weather conditions.

The NDMA has also coordinated with relevant departments to ensure that measures are in place to mitigate the impact of the expected floods, emphasizing the importance of readiness in the face of these seasonal monsoon challenges.
