Kashmiri Leader Honors Activist on Anniversary of Death

Islamabad: Senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has paid tribute to prominent Kashmiri Hurriyat activist Ghulam Muhammad Bulla on his martyrdom anniversary.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Ghulam Muhammad Bulla, a resident of Sopore in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir, was reportedly tortured to death in Central Jail, Srinagar, on February 15, 1975. His burial by Indian police in Sopore was conducted without informing his family or the public, allegedly to conceal the circumstances of his death.

In a statement released from Islamabad, Rehmani emphasized that Bulla’s participation in protests against the Indra-Abdullah Accord was his only perceived offense. This accord, Rehmani suggested, undermined the Kashmir freedom movement by reinstating Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah to power after a long imprisonment and dismissing the demand for a plebiscite in the region.

Rehmani further stated that the 1975 accord eroded significant political and constitutional assurances given to the region in 1947. The agreement, he argued, sparked widespread unrest across Jammu and Kashmir, with Bulla’s death intensifying public dissent and unsettling the Indian administration.
