No threat to Amarnath Yatra in IHK: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, June 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that there is no threat to Amarnath Yatra and the Indian agencies are issuing such statements only to legitimize their control in the territory.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar maintained that the people of Kashmir had never opposed Yatra and opened Langars for the Yatrees during 2008 uprising and had set up an example of communal brotherhood.

“Kashmiris have always welcomed the yatris and tourists here. There is no threat to Amarnath Yatra. This notion has been created by the Indian agencies only to malign the Kashmiri freedom struggle. It is a deliberate attempt to create confusion and misconceptions among the minds of people and defame our freedom struggle at international level,” Mirwaiz said.

Appealing the international community to build up pressure on India for resolution of Kashmir dispute, Mirwaiz said economic packages by the Indian government would not stop the Kashmiris from fighting for their birthright to self-determination.

He also made it clear that elections were not an alternative to the self-determination. “Elections were also held in the past but were not the alternative to the right to self-determination”, he added.

Mirwaiz also proposed India and Pakistan to hold a Summit in Srinagar and Muzaffarabad and initiate a new beginning for the resolution of Kashmir dispute. He claimed that negotiations between Pakistan and India would prove futile till resolution of r Kashmir dispute.
