Heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and flash floods in Kupwara district, resulting in the deaths of five individuals in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The extreme weather has caused considerable damage to the region, affecting hundreds of residents and damaging several houses. According to Kashmir Media Service, the adverse weather conditions have not only impacted Kupwara but also affected Doda, Reasi, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts in the Jammu region, where twelve houses were reported damaged in Kishtwar alone. In response to the escalating situation, several low-lying areas in Kupwara and Handwara are inundated, and local authorities have closed government and private schools as a precautionary measure. The continuous downpour also led the Jhelum River in Srinagar to surpass the flood declaration level early Tuesday morning, adding to the urgency of the response needed from disaster management authorities.
