Pakistan and Cuba have great opportunities to enhance their economic cooperation: Waseem Vohra

Karachi, July 14, 2015 (PPI-OT): The bilateral trade between Pakistan and Cuba has increased substantially during the past years, but it is still not at par with the potentials that exists between the two countries. Both the countries are enjoying cordial bilateral relationship since long which has benefited both countries especially in Social, Economic, Education, Cultural and Technical Sectors.

This was stated by Waseem Vohra, Vice President FPCCI in a meeting with Kamran Shafi Pakistan’s Ambassador designate to Cuba who visited the Federation House to meet the office bearers of FPCCI. The meeting was also attended by Shahnawaz Ishtiaq, Vice President FPCCI and other prominent businessmen and women entrepreneurs.

Muhammad Waseem Vohra further said that Pakistani investors can also explore the market of Cuba for their investment particularly in rice and pharmaceutical sector He said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEK) is great achievement of Pakistan that will attract Industrial Investment from all over the world due to our advantage of FTA with China.

It was emphasized that Pakistani diplomats abroad take up trade and investment opportunities existing in Pakistan in an aggressive manner at the level of foreign diplomat stations in Pakistan, He also said due to the facilitation of foreign diplomatic missions in Pakistan, investment from Pakistan have moved out to the several countries therefore he urged that the advantages of investment in Pakistan such as FTA with China apparently to Middle East market, Central Asian States be highlighted.

He emphasized on having frequent exchange of trade delegations and strengthens the relations through B2B meetings and also participation in international exhibitions. He also informed that Waseem Vohra gave detailed briefing to the Ambassador about the activities of FPCCI. He also informed that FPCCI is willing to organize Pakistan’s official participation in the forthcoming international exhibition in Hawna, Cuba but so far there are some matters which need clarification from our embassy.

Mr. Kamran Shafi – designated Ambassador of Pakistan to Cuba said that scenario of Cuba has been changed, Cuba is border free zone, our neighbouring countries like China and India have trade of millions of dollars in Cuba. He appreciated the role of FPCCI for enhancement of trade and business activities on domestic level and in the international market as well. He also assured his full support and cooperation in organizing Pakistan’s participation in International Fair of Hawana. He also assured any assistance in Cuba for enhancement and strengthening the bilateral trade and economic relations.
