Pakistan and Korea to Launch Seed Potato Complex to Boost Agriculture

Islamabad: The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), in partnership with the Korean Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA), is set to inaugurate a Seed Potato Complex at the National Agriculture Research Center (NARC) on July 7. This initiative aims to produce virus-free potatoes and enhance the agricultural output in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Industries and Production, the inauguration ceremony will be led by Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for National Food Security and Research. The event will be attended by dignitaries including the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Park Kijun, along with senior officials from PARC, NARC, KOPIA, and various stakeholders from national and international organizations, the private sector, NGOs, and progressive farmers from across the country.

The collaboration between Pakistan and Korea through KOPIA is designed to facilitate the transfer of modern agricultural technologies and provide training on innovative practices to Pakistani farmers, enhancing local agriculture practices and productivity. During a meeting with the Korean delegation, Minister Hussain emphasized the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and the importance of strengthening these ties to promote mutual development.

The Minister also highlighted ongoing projects in agricultural technology transfer between the two nations, expressing optimism about the positive impact on Pakistan’s agricultural sector. He stressed that the new Seed Potato Complex and an aeroponic greenhouse will not only improve the quality of seed potatoes but also support cutting-edge agricultural research and development.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to address food safety and security challenges in Pakistan and achieve sustainable agricultural development with the support of international partners like Korea.
