Pakistan and Türkiye Strengthen Digital Collaboration: Focusing on IT, 5G, and AI Initiatives

Islamabad: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT) convened a meeting with Turkish Ambassador Irfan Nezioglu to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of IT, telecommunications, and digital transformation.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by Secretary IT and T Zarrar Hasham Khan and Special Secretary IT and T Azfar Manzoor. Ambassador Nezioglu reiterated the robust connection between Pakistan and Türkiye, referencing Pakistan’s support during Türkiye’s recent earthquake and highlighting the importance of regional cooperation in the face of global challenges. He announced that the Turkish President would visit Pakistan next week.

The Ambassador underscored Türkiye’s digital advancements, noting the existence of 67 million e-state users, 8,000 digital services, and progress in technoparks and private IT firms, along with significant strides in 5G and AI. He emphasized the significance of leveraging Pakistan’s young talent for technological growth and identified mutual interests in IT and telecom sectors.

Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja expressed enthusiasm for increased tech collaboration, asserting that the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is committed to fostering global partnerships. She commended Türkiye’s achievements in e-governance and highlighted Pakistan’s Digital Nation Pakistan Bill, which focuses on economic growth, e-governance, and digital identity. She also emphasized the importance of business-to-business opportunities between Pakistan’s National Information Technology Board (NITB) and Türkiye’s TurkSat, and the prioritization of skills over degrees in the digital economy.

Ambassador Nezioglu proposed the appointment of focal persons from both countries to create a roadmap for IT cooperation in 2025, advocating for direct ministry and industry engagements beyond official visits. Both parties agreed to enhance partnerships in IT, 5G, AI, and digital transformation, thus fortifying Pakistan-Türkiye relations in the digital landscape.
