Pakistan Embassy in Beijing Promotes Medical Equipment Ventures

Beijing: The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, in collaboration with the Board of Investment (BOI), recently hosted a successful event aimed at fostering joint ventures and investment partnerships in the medical and surgical equipment sector between Pakistan and China. The event, which was the sixth in a series of sector-specific B2B matchmaking meetings, facilitated interactions between over 80 Chinese companies and associations and more than 20 Pakistani companies. It resulted in the signing of three Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) worth $250 million.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting featured various key elements including remarks by the Ambassador of Pakistan to China, H.E. Mr. Khalil Hashmi, senior officials from Chinese industry associations, and presentations by the BOI and local enterprises. The event also included 200 individual B2B sessions, offering networking opportunities both in person and online.

In his keynote address, Ambassador Hashmi highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding experience and expertise in the medical and surgical equipment sector. He emphasized the competitive advantages offered by Pakistan, such as labor cost, geographical location, and market access. He also noted the growing potential of this industry in Pakistan, which is valued at over USD 600 million.

Mr. Zhou Hui, President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, discussed the increasing trade in the medical sector between the two countries. He pointed out the complementary strengths of Pakistan’s labor force and raw materials, alongside China’s supply chain expertise.

The meeting concluded with Ambassador Hashmi announcing that Pakistan will host the 4th Health, Engineering, and Minerals Show (HEMS) in Lahore from April 17-19, 2025. This event will focus on surgical and medical instruments and aims to attract participation from Chinese companies to explore new opportunities for growth and innovation.
