Pakistan for Promotion of Peace and Stability in the Region: Pakistan’s envoy to Indonesia

Islamabad, October 03, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan continues to strive for improvement of peaceful environment in our neighbourhood and strengthening of relations with all major powers and the Islamic world. Pakistan has stipulated peace as basic objective of its foreign policy and friendship as our goal, Pakistan Ambassador to Indonesia, Sanaullah said in his address at the Christian University Indonesia (UKI). says a press release received here today from Jakarta.

On invitation from the prestigious institution established in 1953, the Ambassador delivered a general lecture on the theme, “Pakistan for promotion of Peace and Stability in the Region” dilating upon a number of issues concerning peace, stability, terrorism, regional situation and foreign policy. More than 200 students and faculty members of leading Indonesian universities attended the lecture.

Pakistan is a frontline state against terrorism facing the main brunt and being the main sufferer. We have lost more than 27,000 civilian and seven thousand soldiers and policemen in this war.

Terrorism is a ‘Menace’ to regional and global peace and we are committed to the cause of combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We have a firm belief that social, economic and political progress is only possible in an environment of peace and security.

The Ambassador explained Pakistan’s point of view about territorial disputes in ASEAN region, resumption of six-parties talk, and Pakistan’s role in ARF. He also highlighted Pakistan’s contributions for UN peacekeeping operations.

No country has greater stakes in peace, stability and prosperity of Afghanistan than us. We are contributing to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts there. We are part of the solution. We have maintained friendly relations with Iran and continue to support its right to peaceful nuclear energy within the framework of its obligations to the NPT.

Pak-India relations have seen their ups and downs but at present we have resumed composite dialogue and last month Indian Foreign Minister’s visit to Pakistan and opened new avenues for trade and economic activity.

While giving concluding remarks of his lecture the Ambassador emphasized the point that the world and its problems are destined to become more complex and the youth must develop good understanding of global politics and strive to suppress voices of injustice and extremism.

At the end the Ambassador recalled an extract from the President’s recent speech at UN that ‘Please do not insult the memory of our dead and the pain of our living’. How much more suffering can Pakistan endure”?

We want a future that is brighter, more prosperous and more secure, not only for Pakistanis, but for all people of the region, indeed for the world. During an extensive question-answer session the Ambassador remarked that, we believe in the right of self-determination for Kashmir and Kashmir today remains a failure, rather than strength of the UN system as emphasized by the President of Pakistan last week in New York. In answer to another question he said that Pakistan is a progressive democratic Islamic country and first Islamic state to elect a woman Prime Minister, appoint Woman Ambassador (1951) and elect first woman Speaker of the National Assembly.

Rector of the University Mr. Maruli Gultom said that the lecture enlightened the people about Pakistan and would further pave the way to build and promote friendly cooperation at bilateral level as well as ASEAN forum. He further highlighted the themes contained in the President’s UNGA speech and positively reflected on Pakistan’s relations with ASEAN member states.
