Pakistan has a dynamic, vigorous and export-oriented textile industry that has an overwhelming impact on the economy: S.M. Muneer

Karachi, October 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): A Pakistan Japan Textile Workshop on Expectations to Pakistan Textile Industry was jointly organized by TDAP, PJBF and JICA at PC Hotel Karachi. The purpose of this workshop was to provide useful information to improve production management, quality control and inspection things for Pakistani manufacturers. The presentations were made by Mr. Yashiro Shoda and Mr. Hisao Nishiyama.

Both of them were experienced Japanese textile experts working in Asian countries for long time. Mr. Shoda talked about “Expectation to Pakistan Textile Industry” referring to some industrial engineering approach. Mr. Nishiyama talked about Good Factories and Bad Factories with many practical advice and examples from his experience of audit and inspection to textile factories. Mr. S.M. Muneer, Chief Executive, TDAP, Mr. Kalim Farooqui, Vice Chairman, PJBF and Mr. Hideaki Shimizu, JICA Expert to TDAP and Abdul Karim Memon Director Incharge also addressed to the workshop.

Mr. S.M. Muneer, C.E, TDAP said that Pakistan had a dynamic, vigorous and export-oriented textile industry that has an overwhelming impact on the economy. This is a good time for Pakistan to take positive steps towards entering the Japanese market. For export promotion to Japan, JICA and TDAP recently opened new website to provide business information of Japan especially for Pakistani exporters.

Addressing the textile workshop, Japan Textile Importers Association (JTIA) Senior Expert Yasuhiro Shoda also had words of advice. He said the country needed to work on the process design and curtailing of costs. QTEC General Manager Mr. Hisao Nishiyama said, “Japan has a $100 billion apparel market and Japanese consumers are quality conscious and like maintaining quality standards.”

We had Japanese textile delegation with 13members altogether. They were serious textile buyers which came to Pakistan this time without being afraid of several security issues in Pakistan. In addition, recently heard that some of worldwide famous Japanese apparel companies are also planning to buy garments from Pakistan on OEM basis. We believe this is a good timing for Pakistan to challenge Japanese market not only US or European markets.

Recently, Pakistan-Japan Textile Day was observed in Lahore on Oct 12 which was also attended by the Japanese importers. They had very productive b2b meetings with local exporters. Around 70 b2b meetings were held between Pakistani sellers and Japanese buyers. Some Japanese importers were keen to buy yarn and fabrics from Pakistani companies.
