Islamabad: In a significant military engagement, the Pakistan Navy has once again taken command of the Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150), marking its 13th tenure at the helm. The command transfer occurred during a formal ceremony at the US NAVCENT headquarters in Bahrain, with Commodore Asim Sohail Malik of Pakistan Navy taking over from Captain Mathews of the Royal Canadian Navy.
According to Pakistan Navy announcement issued on 23 July 2024, CTF-150, which operates under the Combined Maritime Forces, plays a crucial role in enhancing maritime security by countering illicit activities at sea. During the ceremony, Commodore Malik highlighted his commitment to maintaining the high standards set by his predecessors and emphasized the strategic importance of the waters under the task force’s purview. He acknowledged the efforts of Captain Mathews and the Royal Canadian Navy in their successful tenure and outlined his vision to bolster the multinational effort to ensure maritime security in one of the world’s most crucial marine corridors.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including the Ambassador of Pakistan to Bahrain, H.E Saqib Rauf, Honourary Consul of Canada in Bahrain, Mr. Hatim Zubi, and Vice Admiral George M. Wikoff, among others, reflecting the multinational support and collaborative effort integral to the mission of CTF-150.
