Pakistan Navy Recovers Bodies of 10 Missing Fishermen in Joint Operation

Karachi, In a significant search and rescue operation, the Pakistan Navy, in coordination with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, has recovered the bodies of 10 out of 14 fishermen who went missing after their boat, Al-Assad, capsized in open sea off Hajmbro creek on March 5 due to inclement weather.

According to Pakistan Navy, the search and rescue operation began on March 5, 2024, in challenging conditions, including dense marine traffic near the accident site, time lapse since the incident, and choppy sea conditions. The operation utilized multiple assets, including aircraft, helicopters, ships, and speed boats, in a comprehensive effort to locate the missing fishermen. The breakthrough came today when the Pakistan Maritime Security Ship REHMAT, acting on information from deployed units, recovered the bodies.

The fishing boat Al-Assad had an onboard crew of 45 when it capsized. The recovered bodies have been handed over to the concerned civil authorities for further formalities.

This operation underscores the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to providing assistance in civil calamities at sea and highlights the challenges and risks faced by fishermen working in open sea conditions.
