Pakistan Navy’s war game SHAMSHEER-E-BAHR-V held

Karachi, November 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): The debrief of Pakistan Navy war game SHAMSHEER-E-BAHR-V was held at Karachi on Friday the 8th November 2013. Mr Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest underlined the significance of war games in military planning process and said that in today’s fast changing world, regular conduct of war games to evolve new concepts and doctrines is all the more important.

The Chief Guest lauded the realistic stock taking and objective decision making of the Force Commanders who earlier presented their detailed plans and the Control team which presented an exhaustive analysis. He said that national security has since long transcended traditional concepts of military defence and is now a more comprehensive and wide ranging subject encompassing foreign policy, economy, security and to some extent environmental security.

He assured that the government will provide all the required resources and support for development of maritime infrastructure along our coast. He also emphasized on the need for having strong navy to protect our maritime interests. He said that the development needs of Pakistan Navy, specially the submarines, would be accorded priority despite resource constraints.

On his arrival at the venue, the Chief Guest was received by Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila, Chief of the Naval Staff. Later, Rear Admiral Kaleem Shaukat, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), presented an overview of the war game outlining objectives set forth and concepts tried. He added that exercise SHAMSHEER-E-BAHR is held biennially to try various concepts which are then validated in subsequent Navy-wide field exercises before being incorporated into naval strategy.

The event was attended by large number of high ranking armed forces officers besides civil bureaucrats and reps of Ministries.
