Pakistan Petroleum Boosts Production at Sui Gas Field with Compressor Revamp

Islamabad: Pakistan Petroleum Limited has successfully increased gas production at the Sui Gas Field by revamping its SML Compressors, a strategic move aimed at addressing the natural decline in field output due to aging. This initiative, completed in June 2024, has resulted in a notable production gain of 19 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the revamping project started in March 2023 and was aimed at combating decreasing wellhead pressures, a common issue in maturing gas fields. The overhaul of all seven SML Compressors, which now operate at lower inlet pressures, is part of the company’s broader commitment to enhancing domestic hydrocarbon production and securing a stable energy future for Pakistan.

This increase in production not only helps mitigate the gap between the nation’s energy demand and supply but also reduces the need for costly foreign energy imports, offering a more self-sufficient and cost-effective approach to managing the country’s energy resources.

The project’s completion and its outcomes comply with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1 of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited Regulations, ensuring transparency and regular updates to shareholders and industry stakeholders.
