Pakistan Reaffirms Stance on Terrorism and Foreign Occupation

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has reiterated that the nation’s policy on terrorism and foreign occupation remains steady and unchanged. This clarification comes amid concerns over misinterpretations of Pakistan’s stance on these critical issues.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shafqat Ali Khan, the spokesperson for the Foreign Office, addressed media queries regarding Pakistan’s position. Khan expressed regret that certain media outlets have distorted Pakistan’s policy, which aligns with the consensus of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and international bodies on counter-terrorism and foreign occupation.

The reaffirmation of Pakistan’s stance was further highlighted during a United Nations Security Council briefing focused on the threats to international peace and security caused by terrorism. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of terrorism, such as poverty, foreign occupation, and the denial of self-determination to peoples under colonial and foreign domination, specifically in regions like Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office spokesperson underscored the long-standing emphasis by Pakistan and the OIC on a comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy. This approach includes resolving conflicts, ending foreign occupations, and tackling poverty to promote sustainable economic growth and development.

Furthermore, Khan reiterated that Pakistan, in conjunction with the OIC, has consistently advocated that any definition of terrorism must differentiate between acts of terrorism and the legitimate struggles of peoples under foreign or colonial occupation, who seek self-determination and national liberation.
